I was going back and fourth on whether to see Hallstatt and I am so glad I went.

This town is tiny but it is also so adorable. I would say a half day trip is perfect. The views of the Austrian Alps are breathtaking and there are a good amount of little shops you can pop into.

Hallstatt is most well-known for its salt mines and is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. If you do go on a guided trip, make sure you have enough time to go into the salt mines if that is something of interest to you. There are a lot of guided tours that will take you from either Vienna or Salzburg. Many tours here are quick and do not budget time for the mines. If you are looking for a more leisurely time, I recommend going on your own or finding a tour that allows a few hours in town.

There is a waterfall you can walk up to and if you take the funicular up, there is a World Heritage View you can see by walking along the skywalk. The funicular is also how you get to the salt mines. You can also walk about an hour uphill to get to both the salt mines and World Heritage View.

My stop here was brief but the views made the trip well worth it!
