Saint-Émilion
One of the most charming towns in the Bordeaux region, Saint-Émilion is surrounded by world-renowned châteaux and beautiful vineyards. Wander the historic streets, explore the medieval architecture, and enjoy incredible wine experiences right outside town.
Pro Tip
Stop by Macarons de Saint-Émilion to try the region's traditional macarons. While you're in town, don't miss the local wine shops or the beautiful courtyard of the Saint-Émilion Collegial Catholic Church.
Médoc
A perfect day trip to experience some of the world's most iconic Bordeaux-style blends. I recommend booking tastings at wineries in Pauillac, Cussac, and Soussans to explore a variety of renowned estates and wines.
Pro Tip
Drive through Pauillac to see some of Bordeaux’s most iconic estates. Both Château Mouton Rothschild and Château Lafite Rothschild are located here. Château Pichon Baron and Château Palmer had my favorite exteriors and are well worth driving past as well.
L'Intendant
One of the most beautiful wine shops. Walk up the stunning spiral staircase and browse an incredible selection of wines from some of Bordeaux's finest producers.
Pro Tip
On Saturdays, local winemakers and château owners often visit to showcase their wines. It's another great opportunity to taste wines from the surrounding region and meet the people behind the wine.
Place de La Bourse
A beautiful palace right on the water. Stand behind the Miroir d’Eau to see its reflection across the surface.
Le Quatrième Mur
Visit Philippe Etchebest’s restaurant, often referred to as the “French Gordon Ramsay.” Choose from a seasonal set menu including a starter, main course, and dessert.
Pro Tip
Depending on your budget, you can opt for “La Table d’Hôtes,” the communal table experience, which features a seven-course tasting menu for a more elevated dining experience.
Carnaval Cafe
A great spot to stop before dinner for a drink and some saucisson (dry-cured sausage).
Pro Tip
Buy two blond beers between 5–pm and get a free saucisson!
La Toque Cuivrée
A recommendation from my local French friends to try canelés. A unique pastry with a soft, mochi-like interior and a lightly caramelized, crunchy exterior.
Pro Tip
There are three size options, but the locals swear the “lunch” size has the best combination of a soft interior and crisp exterior.
Cité du Vin
The permanent exhibition offers an informative and interactive way to learn about wine regions, production, and sensory evaluation. On the top floor, you can enjoy a glass of wine of your choice from a selection of countries.
Pro Tip
Skip the permanent exhibition if you’re in the wine industry or already well-versed in wine. Don't miss the wine shop!
Bar á Vin
Can't make it to the surrounding wine regions? This wine bar offers an excellent selection of wines from across the region, making it easy to sample a variety of local producers in one place.
