Hot Air Balloon Ride
Simply can’t come to Cappadocia without doing this. I expected it to be terrifying, but the ride was incredibly smooth. The operators explain everything you need to know, making it feel very safe and well organized. Seeing all the other balloons in the sky as you float over Göreme is truly magical. I can’t recommend this experience enough.
Pro Tip
Be prepare for an early morning as the balloons go up at sunrise.
Uchisar Fairy Chimneys
Uçhisar Castle is the largest fairy chimney in the region and is surrounded by many others, creating an incredible view. While some fairy chimneys have been converted into museums, others are still inhabited by residents living in remodeled cave homes. It’s one of the most unique places I’ve ever been to.
Pro Tip
Only about 10 minutes from the town of Göreme, you can get here by public bus, taxi, or guided tour.
Avanos
Chez Galip Pottery and Ceramics is an incredible place. My tour guide happened to have a great relationship with the owner, Chez Galip, which made the visit even more special. We were able to try the traditional pottery wheels still in use and watch talented artists hand-paint ceramics. They also pour you wine before letting you explore the extensive shop filled with unique pieces.

Goreme Open-Air Museum
Step inside the fairy chimney houses for an up-close look at their layout, rooms, and unique architectural features.
Pro Tip
The museum requires an entry fee, although some guided tours include admission.
Imagination Valley
Lots of fairy chimneys and rock formations shaped like different figures. It’s fun to compare what you see with what others notice. Try to spot the famous Camel Fairy Chimney.
