Nyhavn
This is where you’ll find Copenhagen’s iconic colorful buildings lining the water. Known as the city’s entertainment district, Nyhavn is filled with restaurants, spots to enjoy a cold beer, and boat tours along the canal.
Pro Tip
There is a cute little Christmas market along the water during the winter.
Torvehallerne
Get lost wandering through the stands at this food hall. Sample dishes from around the region, browse fresh produce and flowers, or grab a drink. It’s the perfect spot if your group wants to try a variety of different foods.
Pro Tip
Take a lap around the market first to see all the options before deciding. There are two sections of covered stalls; it’s worth exploring both.
King's Garden
A beautiful area to relax, enjoy a picnic, or wander through the paths. The park surrounds Rosenborg Castle, which you can visit to see its famous collection of crown jewels.
Pro Tip
The castle is not open year-round, so if visiting the interior is high on your list, plan your trip accordingly.
Julemarked Højbro Plads
The perfect place to try Danish cuisine. We opted for a Pølsevogn, a popular Danish street food consisting of a sausage served in a hollowed-out piece of bread, along with a massive pretzel and warm soup. The stalls were mainly focused on food and sweet treats, making it a great spot to sample local favorites.
Try Smørrebrød
Smørrebrød is a traditional Danish open-faced sandwich with a variety of toppings. You can find it at many restaurants throughout Copenhagen, or head to Torvehallerne for a great selection.
1656 Cocktail Bar
A very unsuspecting cocktail bar with nothing but a red light above the door to mark its entrance. Recommended by a local, it was the perfect spot for a relaxed drink away from the busier nightlife.
